I've forgotten the name of the place we stayed, but it was on Ao Chaweng. We didn't really spend too much time here - just the first afternoon and the two evenings. all of the second day was spent at Ang Tong, and we left early the next morning.
That said, Ao Chaweng is really neat. On the streets there's the regular kind of shoppy tourist area, but on the beach all the restaurants have their dining areas on the sand right next to the water, and as dusk they all turn on christmas lights and stuff which line the beach as far as you can see. It's very pretty. Also, each restaurant sells whatever the day's fish are on these little fish boats, so you pick the fish you want, tell them how you want it cooked, and then sit back with a cocktail and listen to the ocean. It definitely felt touristy, but was still a lot of fun.
